As I reflect on my goals for 2024, I’m excited to say that I achieved everything I set out to do. My ambitions revolved around making new connections, embracing fresh experiences, learning, and expanding my knowledge—especially in the world of plants and gardening. Honestly, these goals felt much more attainable than trying to shed a few pounds!
Making new connections came naturally this year when I joined the Wolfeboro Garden Club back in January. The first meeting was a little awkward, as they often are, but I quickly found myself enjoying the presentation and chatting with a few members. From there, I dug deeper into the club’s activities and discovered they were in need of a publicity and social media chair. Since I’ve spent years promoting my own business, stepping into this role was a no-brainer.
But that wasn’t all. I also signed up for one of the club’s gardening committees that plants and maintains the beautiful gardens around Wolfeboro. I’m part of the team responsible for the dockside planters, and it’s such a fun job. Every day, two team members head out to prune, water, and care for the gardens. It’s not just about the plants, though—it’s a social experience. We chat while we work, and there are always people walking by who stop to engage in conversation. It’s an amazing way to get to know the community while nurturing nature.
Learning continues to be a huge part of my life. Gardening is, of course, at the top of my list, but I’ve also become deeply immersed in the art of sourdough. After over a year of experimenting and refining my techniques, I’m now creating with more confidence and creativity. There’s always something new to discover in both my garden and kitchen, which keeps me endlessly motivated.
My design work has also kept me busy this year. I’ve been working on projects for both long-time clients and new ones, including new builds, remodels, and additions. I’ve had the chance to redesign kitchens and bathrooms, help clients select new furnishings, and more. While I don’t take on as many projects as I used to—choosing to focus on quality over quantity—I’m grateful for the balance it gives me. It allows me to dedicate more time to my garden and my sourdough creations.
Some of my favorite personal projects this year included making maple syrup from the sap of our own trees, building several rustic stick fences, and adding windows to the backside of our barn, which we now lovingly call the “Barn Lounge.” These hands-on projects were incredibly rewarding, and I’m proud of the progress we’ve made.
Overall, 2024 has been a year of growth, connection, and creativity. I’m looking forward to what the next year brings, especially as I continue to expand my gardening knowledge, take on new adventures, and work with great clients on home design projects.
